A family budget app that actually gets used
Most family budgets die in month two: someone forgets to log the groceries, the spreadsheet drifts, and nobody trusts the numbers anymore. FamilyWallet removes the typing — you photograph the receipt, the assistant reads the amount, the merchant and the category, and the expense is logged.
- Snap a receipt and the AI assistant logs the expense for you
- A profile for each family member, plus one shared "Everyone" view
- Installments, subscriptions and bills with reminders before the due date
- Works on Android and iPhone as an installable app, no app store needed
Why family budgets fail
The problem is never motivation, it is friction. Manual entry takes 30 seconds per purchase and nobody keeps that up for a year. A family budget app only works if logging an expense is faster than forgetting it.
- Too much manual typing after every shop
- One person owns the budget and the other never looks at it
- Installments and subscriptions are invisible until they hit the account
How FamilyWallet works
You create one household. Everyone in the family gets their own profile with their own income, expenses and assistant conversations. The dashboard shows either one profile or everyone together, so you can see your own money and the family total on the same screen.
- Photograph a receipt or write to the assistant: "I spent 40 on fuel"
- Categories are assigned automatically and can be corrected in one tap
- The balance carries over from month to month, exactly like a bank account
Beyond expense logging
Groceries are the easy part. What derails a family budget is the recurring stuff: the phone plan, the streaming bundle, the fridge bought in 12 installments. FamilyWallet tracks these as commitments with due dates and sends a push notification before each payment.
- Subscriptions with monthly and yearly cost side by side
- Installments with remaining balance and end date
- Budgets per category and savings goals for the family
Private accounts and business accounts
If one of you is self-employed, business spending should not pollute the family budget. You can keep separate accounts and view them apart or together, with a clear tag on each transaction.
Frequently asked questions
Is FamilyWallet free?
Yes, there is a free plan with the core budget, expense tracking, installments and subscriptions. Premium raises the AI assistant and receipt scanning limits and unlocks unlimited transactions and more profiles.
Do we both need a separate subscription?
No. The subscription belongs to the household, so everyone in the family is covered by one plan.
Which currencies are supported?
You choose a base currency for the household — euro, leu, krone and others — and expenses in another currency are converted while keeping the original amount.
